“Congress shall make no law restricting free speech”

Platforms can make rules.

They cannot ban people outright for their religious, sexual or ethnic identity, but they can ban people for threatening, abusive or offensive speech and even for political affiliation.

I suppose that could lead a lot of conservatives to insist that they were “born that way”

redstate.com banned me for pointing out that EPA, OSHA, Title IX and Title X were signed into law by a Republican, and that Gov Reagan signed California’s abortion law (then the most liberal in the nation) and gun control (still the stricter in the nation).

Good advice to get in on it if anyone hasn’t. I became aware of it while they were still giving away the first one, which I think was “The Witness”.

Also, like Origin-around-2016 before it, I think it’s not trials, but permanent access.

So I was out in the front yard this morning when this little one came running towards me:

Which is odd because cats are usually timid and shy away from people. As you can see here, I got it in a box and gave it some food and water.

My wife and I are pretty sure this kitten is female. We brought her into the house and introduced her to our two dogs and surprisingly everyone got along. Also, she loves to play with string:

We haven’t yet decided if she’ll be a new member of our crew but odds are leaning in that direction.

Next step is to name her.

This is the type of death that I find very troubling — a young woman dies of an infection? Is this due to antibiotic resistant bacteria? Are we entering a new age when any of us can now suffer a premature death because our treatments are failing us? Of course, then, it’s not premature but reflects the actual state of medicine in our time.

Some years ago, I read an article - wish I could find it now - where Putin made some statement along the lines that the US would/could be split up due to internal divisions. I think this was after the 2000 election debacle, or maybe it was after the 2008 election.

Basically, the Putin-group in Russian circles (which I believe is tied to Orthodox Russian Church type of nationalism) look for the end of US hegemony in world relations.

And with Trump they are succeeding.

Don’t know if this recipe is correct but it looks very close to a KFC coleslaw recipe making the rounds. The Pantry recipe has a few tweaks that I usually do to the KFC copycat version. They both look good!

Pantry Cole Slaw Recipe:

Ingredients
1 large head cabbage, very finely shredded
3/4 cup mayonnaise
3 TBSP sugar
1 1/2 TBSP white wine vinegar
1/3 cup oil
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
1/8 tsp dry mustard
1/8 tsp celery salt
Dash black pepper
1 TBSP lemon juice
1/2 cup half and half
1/4 tsp salt
Directions
Blend together mayonnaise, sugar, vinegar, and oil. Add garlic and onion powders, mustard, celery salt, pepper, lemon juice, half and half and salt. Stir until smooth. Pour over cabbage in a large bowl and toss until cabbage is well coated. Makes 8 to 10 servings

Update Regarding Add-ons in Firefox

Late on Friday May 3rd, we became aware of an issue with Firefox that prevented existing and new add-ons from running or being installed. We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused to people who use Firefox.

Our team has identified and rolled-out a fix for all Firefox Desktop users on Release, Beta and Nightly. The fix will be automatically applied in the background within the next few hours. No active steps need to be taken to make add-ons work again. In particular, please do not delete and/or re-install any add-ons as an attempt to fix the issue. Deleting an add-on removes any data associated with it, where disabling and re-enabling does not.

To provide this fix on short notice, we are using the Studies system. This system is enabled by default, and no action is needed unless Studies have been disabled. Firefox users can check if they have Studies enabled by going to:

Firefox Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Allow Firefox to install and run studies (scroll down to find the setting)

I kinda look at the internet of things as early consumer robotics. just not setting arms to grab or legs to walk. Instead, we have smart homes, smart fridge, smart enviro systems. Mechanized to work for us on the task/chore side. Shopping lists, enviro systems responding to unexpected weather, maybe choosing to surprise warm air will save energy $ if vented in.

Not at all sure if we should rush headlong into this kind of transformative technology on the heels of the internet.

At Churchill Downs, Governor Matt Bevins (R-Mars) presents the trophy to the winner of the Kentucky Derby, (Country House, at 65-1, after the horse that crossed first was DQ’ed), and is booed until he gives up the microphone.

Nice!

Horses leave their lane ALL THE TIME!!

That’s why a quick start from an outside post… that jockey will try as soon as possible (as soon as it’s clear) to move closer to the rail.

But interfering with another horse… that’s a huge NO!! and it’s generally presumed to be the jockey’s fault. Watch this jockey have a hard time getting mounts in the future.

How did he interfere?

We were discussing the sudden prevalence of the word “bespoke” yesterday. Check this out:

bespokepost.com

It’s a (probably short-lived) business that sends you a “surprise” box of items along a theme. My son, who was chatting with his brother about it on our family Google chat, characterized it as “hipster masculinity in a box … those things in a box shipped to your door are expensive and marketed to millennials with more money than time.”

Regarding the use of the term “bespoke,” these items are not “bespoke”. Per the instructions:

You’ve got 5 days to review your selection. Customize styles and colors, swap into another box, or skip the month altogether.

That’s not bespoke. That’s choosing telling someone else what to pull off the rack and put in the box for you. Bespoke is getting stuff specifically designed and made just for you, and it generally means you have to physically visit the vendor to be measured, etc.

They sully the word “bespoke.”

How did he interfere?

He kicked the leg of the horse next to him when they were all tightly bunched.

Just not sure “miracle” is the best way to describe skidding off the runway and crashing into the water.

While in the water they hauled in net after net of fish until the airliner was almost swamped.

I’m just trying to figure out where the lanes are on the track.

There’s no lanes. The horses start side byy side in the starting gate, and once the gun goes off, they all try to hug the rail in the turns. Interfering with another horse (like body blocking in basketball) is a no-no, though.

Was this year another of the overcrowded starts, where they have to rig portable gates?

(Family used to go to Derby Day, celebrated it real-time while stationed in Korea, now I didn’t know the name of a single entry.)

20 horses this time. I think the gate has only 14 slots.

We’re these anti-gay protestors affiliated with the Benbrook chapter of the American Family Association? That group was quite vocal and active with their harassment campaigns when I lived in Fort Worth in the early-mid-nineties.
